Board & Train Program

Our Board & Train Program is designed to give your dog the most effective, enjoyable training in a proven 2 week training program.


Our training has been tested and proven over 70 years.


Unlike the other board and trains, your dog will not live in a kennel facility. He will live in our home, with us and be treated as a member of our family!

We offer private Board and Train for both

We also offer training for AKC Canine Good Citizen (From S.T.A.R. Puppy through all levels of Canine Good Citizen) and AKC Trick Dog training.

AKC STAR Puppy

Your puppy can be well on his way to becoming a Canine Good Citizen with the STAR Puppy program. 6 one-hour sessions $120 (This course has a minimum 6 puppy enrollment)<

There are 20 steps for success required to pass the STAR Puppy test and they are the normal things we all want our puppies to be able to do. The program is fun for puppies and owners and teaches the puppies valuable skills for life.<

Some examples of the test items are:

  • Tolerates collar or harness

  • Allows owner to take away toy or treat

  • Doesn't show aggression toward people or puppies in class

    AKC Canine Good Citizen


      Your dog can earn an AKC Canine Good Citizen title in just 6 weeks! 6 one-hour sessions $135.00

      The AKC Canine Good Citizen is your ticket to many advantages as a dog owner!

      This course teaches the 10 skills needed to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen test.

      The skills required are:

    • Accepting a friendly stranger

    • Sitting politely for petting

    • Appearance and grooming (sitting quietly while being groomed)

    • "Out for a walk" ( walking on loose leash)

    • Walking through a crowd

    • Sit & Down on command and staying in place

    • Coming when called

    • Reaction to a dog

    AKC Virtual Home Manners Title

    Have you started some early training at home? Whether your have a new puppy or a new adult dog, your dog can earn the AKC Virtual Home Manners title.

    It doesn't matter if your dog is purebred or a mixed breed. This AKC title, like the others, is available for any dog to earn!

    And you can have your dog earn this title from the comfort of your own home! Testing is done virtually! You take video of your pup following the required commands and behaviors and send it to us. We evaluate the videos and then send you the paperwork to get the AKC Virtual Home Manners title!

    Therapy Dog Education & Evaluation

    • Therapy dogs provide comfort to the sick and grieving as well as support for struggling students. But there's much more to Therapy Dogs than a calm, people-loving temperament.

    Joyful Dogs of Michigan will purchase, at client's expense, the needed equipment or instruct the client as to what equipment to purchase. Client agrees to purchase whatever equipment Joyful Dogs of Michigan requests.
